Just another dull day with nothing to report but another mass
shooting, this time it was children, the last big one was black
people. The times where 1 or 2 people are shot just don't count
any more. It's got to be 10 or 15. WTF. The Las VegasReview Journal has a story today about a man shooting an another
because he was escorting the 1st guy's estranged girl
friend. Oh, he was arrested and charged with a bunch of things but
has been released! Our son recently move near Little Rock, AR; the local paper has another shooting story.
And I have probably 50 pieces of mail from Republican candidates
for public office and they all say the same thing: I support
our 2nd Amendment rights! Well, shit! I'm good with the
2nd Amendment but it certainly doesn't say anything about the right
to go around killing others! It doesn't say anything about
letting nut cases do whatever they want. It doesn't say buy all
the military grade weapons you want. What's next? Why
can't I go buy a mortar and a few rounds of ammunition? I mean it
would take some practice to learn to use it properly but why not? I'd only blow up 2 or 3 peoples houses while practicing. I've had guns since I was a child. I've had concealed weapons permits in two states. But this is getting just a bit crazy.
The 2nd Amendment is pretty simple. It says: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Well, it needs some sort of restating to keep 'the right of the people to live peacefully' alive as well.
Thanks for stopping by. Keep washing those hands!

Don, a very good and well written essay. Could not have said it better. When I stayed on my Grandmother's farm, there were always guns on the rack to protect the cows and other farm animals and hunting to put venison in the freezer. I was young, but don't remember massacres like this. I'm either getting a lot older or this country is changing drastically.
